Slayers Again: Week 14 - Discussion
Greetings all!
Sorry this is a day late. I'm still lacking of the calendar that exists inside my laptop, so it means that I barely know what's going on from day to day. ^_^;
This is week 14 of Slayers Again. This week, we're discussing Slayers Next episodes 9-13 and viewing episodes 14-17. Note that the former was 5 episodes, so if you haven't finished the Seyruun story line, you'll need to do an episode of catching up.

Some dijointed ramblings on the state of my personal Sonic the Hedgehog fandom
I recently reached a point where I realized I wasn't a Sonic fan anymore, and was just pretending to be one.
To be more clear...Back in 2005, I still thought of the Sonic series as being as popular and respected as Mario. Sure, the Dreamcast had unexpectedly kicked the bucket, and now Sega was a third party developer, but I had no reason to think of Nintendo's old rival as being a laughing stock.
And to be honest, at the time I was very excited for Shadow's new game. I loved the character in Sonic Adventure 2, and at the time, assumed that most people shared my feelings.
Then the game came out and it was a massive critical failure.
This was my first encounter with the cultural meme of "New Sonic the Hedgehog games are all rubbish." While I resisted at first, eventually I wound up assimilating into what I thought of as the majority. I slowly began to believe that anything Sonic that was released from 1999 onward was irredeemable garbage and that everything should go back to being the way it was in the 90s.
Well, this just got worse and worse. Eventually, I was only picking out a few characters and ideas that I deemed enjoyable, while shunning all the rest. The fact that the chosen few things I liked about the Sonic franchise kept changing did not help anything.
In time, I got fed with the whole franchise and every character in it, up to and including Sonic himself. He was no longer a character to me, just a marketing gimmick. A Mountain Dew commercial on legs.
So...yeah. It took a while before I fully realized what I was doing to myself, but I'm glad I did get to the point where I could say "Wait...how did I get here?"
It's amazing when you've been stuck in a negative, harmful pattern for so long, that you forget why you ended up that way in the first place.
I'm not saying that disliking New Sonic is harmful to everyone. Most of the time it's just a matter of taste. But it wasn't me. I first started liking Sonic because it made me more open-minded, because it made me realize that games that weren't Nintendo weren't necessarily bad. Thus, my becoming increasingly close-minded about the series was counter-productive to the original spirit in which I originally became a fan.
Furthermore, I've rekindled my fascination with the character of Sonic himself. I've realized that while making him somewhat egotistical and self-absorbed has always been a part of his character, he has never, in any major continuity, been portrayed as heartless. And, well, to be honest, the character allows me an outlet for my feelings, both positive and negative. He's someone I can feel angry at and yet sympathize with at the same time, and, because he's not a real person, I can do it with my mind at ease.

So I went to checkout some of my subs on Youtube when I came across this clip of The Soup showing a Halloween clip of The Today Show. Ewoks attempt to get drunk, moonwalk and uh... Well, you'll just have to see this for yourself.

~Entei, Lord of the "Unknown" Tower: In my restless dreams, I see that Pokemon
I went and played Fallout for a bit but then I got jumped by some random dudes in the Hub and locked into a battle and they killed me and I hadn't saved and I got really frustrated and quit. >:(
SO INSTEAD LET'S SCREENCAP SOMETHING THAT TAKES FAR LESS WORK
As I mentioned in the Revelation Lugia entry, the only Pokemon movie I ever saw in theaters was the Mewtwo one. All the rest I've only seen subbed, so I really couldn't tell you the sub/dub differences here. I picked up a subbed VHS of the Entei movie off Ebay at the same time as the Lugia one, so the hype for both was mostly over at that point. The Entei movie was near the end of Pokémania in America really, and I think the next movie was only released on video. POKEMON'S TIME IN THE SUN HAD PASSED IN AMERICA
But I like the Entei movie, I dunno. There's no real villain, and you go inside someone's thoughts and dreams which is always interesting to me. It's odd because generally I don't care for Entei, much like I don't care for any of the legendary dogs. BUT I DO LIKE THIS MOVIE, WHAT CAN I SAY
Even if it, like many Pokemon movies, doesn't quite make sense most of the time.
As a side note, I once knew someone who was way overinvested in this movie. Like... really overinvested. But maybe I'll talk about that more as we go along.

any fish doctors?
My friend gave me her betta, knowing that I would take better care of it then she was. I got in probably a half gallon container with absolutely nothing in it. I immediately asked for a ride to meijer and bought him a 5 gallon tank with a heater, gravel and plants to hide in. Having never been able to swim before he was a bit clumsy. He's gotten better but he seems unable to move his caudal fin. I cant tell if he just doesn't know how to use it or if he had become disabled from living in poor conditions. suggestions anyone?

And The Wind Blew
Halloween has come an gone and sad to say that I ended up staying up at the colledge instead of taking my niece out. which I would have made more fuse over if it weren't for the fact that her mother bought her a Hanaha Montana costume the day after her costume was ordered. she was heart broken when she realized it but meh, next time.
ANYWHO, I did get to wear my ALMOST finished costume out and about and because it wasn't completed I had to keep some parts hidden, mainly the top of my head. so, in doing so I got inspired to write a little oneshot, nothing much but I thought I'd share since it's been a while since I posted. I might post Halloween pics sometime, but that just depends on how they turned out. til then, enjoy.
